Why I’m Going to India

  1. When was the last time you interacted with a kid that didn’t have self-worth?  We’ve all encountered it.  Oh, child with downcast eyes and slumped shoulders, we want so much more for you.  Now imagine it worse than you’ve ever seen- a culture where children believe they are untouchable, that they are born of darkness and to darkness they will return.  That’s the world I want to venture into…
  2. Last summer, I had some big dreams for our SpringHill staff.  It turned out that as we shouted these words to others, I might have been changed more than they were.  I’m all-in.

    LIVE RADICALLY

    Be light in the darkness

    It’s your move

    No one else is coming

  3. For the past three years, we’ve partnered with Granger Community Church to reach almost a thousand kids through SpringHill Day Camps.  I love learning from them and being a part of their teams.  I believe that they have an outstanding model for missions- having trained up local Indian leaders to plant thousands of churches.  These churches have become the life-source for villages that have been impoverished both spiritually and physically.  I get to join in what God is already doing- through His local people.  Love that.
  4. We’re joining the GCC India Team village in the south called Kalavai (don’t get nervous, but they eat rats there…I know).  The purpose of our “Hopes and Dreams” team is to create experiences and relationships so that the people of the village will have clearer understanding that God CREATED them, LOVES them and has PURPOSE for their lives.  That way, kids will actually want to stay in school and plan for their futures.

You better believe I’m going to be blogging* my way through the four month training process, 11 day trip [Dec 29- Jan 8] and one month de-brief.   I’m sure our hearts will be breaking and expanding together, you will be laughing with at me, and I will be pleading for prayers as I step into scary.

I believe in building teams.  We have a world in need. I believe in utilizing peoples’ strengths to jump right in and start joining God in His work.  In building my India support team, I love watching God align our hearts for this particular work.  And sometimes, our greatest strength is that we were born Americans.  We have dollars to give. Won’t you join me on this team?  The $3,000 that I am raising is going towards my transportation, but also something much more worthwhile-

WE’RE GOING TO PAY THE DAYS’ WAGES for the people of Kalavai so that they can be treated to a few days of experiencing hopes and dreams!  One of our goals is to allow the families to travel and explore outside of their village- instilling an understanding that our God is bigger and there is more to hope for than returning to darkness at the end of their life.  Of course, all this will be mixed in with awesome activities, de-briefs, songs and celebrations!

I’m passionate about this happening for the people of Kalavai and I hope you’ll join me.
