This summer, one of my staff members spoke into my life and my leadership through a word picture. And to be honest, it kind of freaked me out.
I’m walking. Always moving forward on the path, and often moving very quickly. As I walk, I speak words of vision to the many people who are trying to keep my pace (some I didn’t even notice). They want in on this path, to be closer to me as I walk, to continue to hear these kind of words.
And do you know what? Sometimes I’m terrified I’m going to lead them into danger (and sometimes I have). There’s a lot at stake when you realize that others are coming behind you. I know I’m not going to do this perfectly, but I want to surrender my life daily to being on the right path–one where I’ll lead others across roads less travelled, but ultimately, we’ll all get safely to the other side. Mark Beeson, pastor at Granger Community Church, articulated this concept so well (and relates it to parenting) in his recent blog post here.
